IPC
COMPUTER WHIZ KIDS!
The
computer class is part of our three kindergarten classes’ (children
aged 3+) timetable. Class
times are between 20-25 minutes for each student. The children rotate
between 4 computers and have time on each programme.
The children
are encouraged to try all the different programs so that they can get
a good overall experience in "mouse control" and keyboard
recognition whilst enhancing their letter and number skills by sorting
puzzles, painting and spelling with Mickey Mouse & Co., Pooh Bear
and friends and the ever popular Star Wars. The Jump Start and Land
Before Time programs are still very popular and continue to interest
and educate the children.
K2
have commenced doing work with Microsoft Word, familiarising themselves
where each letter is positioned on the keyboard and the different functions
available to them. So far we have dealt with spacebars, capital letters,
bold type and numbers.
We have found that
our children as young as three have taken to computer class like “naturals”.
Every week their confidence and skill levels grow. Even the children
who are a little hesitant begin to participate in no time due to our
class structure of working in pairs. The children stimulate and challenge
each other thus encouraging participation by their peers. Most importantly,
all the children have fun and continue to learn fundamental basics and
skills in a playful and colourful way.
You are most welcome
to meet with me or visit "my" classroom in the library at
your convenience.
